Skilled visas are points-tested visas are a part of the skilled migration program. They use a points system to assess an applicant’s eligibility for a visa. Points are awarded based on various factors such as age, English language proficiency, skilled employment experience, educational qualifications, and more.
The 189, 190, and 491 visas are part of the Australian work visas under the skilled migration category. Here’s a brief overview of each:

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189): This is a points-based visa for those who have an occupation on a skills shortage list and want to live in Australia permanently. You do not need a job offer to apply for this visa.

Skilled Nomination visa (subclass 190): This is also a points-based visa for people who have an occupation in demand in a particular state or territory, have a nomination from an Australian state or territory government agency, and want to work and live in Australia permanently.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491): This is a points-based visa valid for up to 5 years. It’s a pathway to residency for those who have a nomination by an Australian state or territory government agency or are sponsored by an eligible relative residing in a designated regional area1. After a minimum of 3 years, you can apply for a Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) for permanent residency.
To qualify for any of these visas, you must meet certain requirements such as being under the age of 45, having an occupation on a skills shortage list, scoring at least 65 points in your skills assessment, and having a competent level of English1.
